President of Zamalek fires coach Jesualdo Ferreira and replaces him with Ossama Nabih

Club president Mortada Mansour said on Tuesday that Zamalek fired Portuguese coach Jesualdo Ferreira and hired Ossama Nabih for the rest of the Egyptian Premier League season.

The decision was made exactly one hour after the club’s Tuesday league match against Ghazl El-Mahalla, which ended in a 2-1 loss.

In addition, Mansour said that Ossama Nabih, a former assistant coach under Ferreira, would take over as head coach of the squad once Ferreira fully steps down.

The reigning league champions haven’t won a single game in their first five games of the 2023 season. This shows that they are having trouble keeping up with the rest of the league.

Zamalek have been in poor form in the second leg of the season. They have dropped from first to fifth place in the Egyptian League table.

They also didn’t make it to the finals of the Egypt Cup because they lost to Pyramids FC in a penalty shootout.

The decision to fire the Portuguese manager was approved by the board in a unanimous vote on Sunday, according to the club president. However, the board has chosen to delay the announcement of their decision until the sixth of February.

Ferreira was hired as Zamalek’s new coach in March 2022, and he was a big reason why the club won the domestic double that year.

During his time as coach, Zamalek competed in 51 games, with a record of 32 victories, 11 draws, and nine defeats.

Zamalek is currently in fifth place in the standings with 26 points, 11 points behind the team in first place, Ahly.

Ferreira leaves Zamalek ten months after taking over as manager. He will be known for the Zamalek double triumph in 2022.
